For my final, I decided to make a video diary of my experience in quarantine so I can remember what this bizarre period of my life was like. I documented photos of my weekly walks and my family, and the the things that can only occur during quarantine, like the Easter Bunny wearing a face mask riding on a firetruck on the front of my street. Quarantine has created different experiences for everyone, and I think it would be interesting to compare each of our own unique ones. For example, the reality I’ve faced is completely different than a family with a medical worker. For my own experience, it has had its many ups and down as my family goes through this together. My personal favorite is a video I included at the end, of my mother cutting the hair of my brothers while the sun goes down. I also included the things I’ve created to make my friends laugh as they all go through their own lows. For example, I used my photoshop skills I learned in class to make a meme about wanting to be anywhere other than home, even the abandoned mall in my town(that is a genuine photo of the mall, it really is that run down). As my computer has no memory, I made the photoshops using a free app on my phone, Bazzart to varying levels of success, but I enjoyed making my photoshops look shoddy, as the more shoddy the more funny it was for my friends. In the news people have been saying that air quality has improved and smog has gone down worldwide, so I photoshopped the Eiffel Tower and the moon in my backyard, saying that since quarantine the view has really cleared up. Then, my friend had her birthday during quarantine, so to make her cheer up, I made a quiz for her. A snapshot of the time, I want to be able to look back and see the video of my dear friends and I lining up in our cars at the middle school to go drive by her house to wish her a happy birthday. Another photoshop I made was of her face onto a boy wearing a dunce cap, which she loved. For my parents anniversary I made a digital collage of photos when they were young as a gift to them, which I included in the video.
Accompanying these snapshots and photoshops of my experience in quarantine, are sounds of a university, to highlight the experience I’m missing, and other sounds such as ducks and trains and cartoon noises to display just how confusing the quarantine experience has been. The videos and photos in the video are shown at a fast pace to display the confusion during this time as we all have no clue at to what is happening, how things are going to change, everything. I cut the sound at the end, even the voices of my mother and brothers to further show how sometimes all stifling this all feels, but it also emphasizes the beauty of the sunset and the array of conflicting emotions that are constantly happening
