The only bright light of quarantine amidst the horrible news and politics is Trevor Noah and the Daily Show
He is humorous, intelligent, and overall, a good decent person. He can make even the worst news funny without taking the seriousness and gravity away from it. I wish people watched him instead of Fox
The greatest band that never hit the big time- JELLYFISH. Artist like Brian Wilson, Brian May, and Ringo loved this band when they came out in the 90s and even invited the band to work with them. Harry Nillson said they were his favorite band, right before he passed away. The band deserves so much more than what it got and they broke up after only 2 perfect albums.
People saw their fun appearance and dismissed them as cartoonish when they were probably better musicians and writers than most of their peers during this time.
Spilt Milk and Bellybutton, both of their albums are masterpieces, but my personal favorite is Spilt Milk which is an album centered on dreams. It’s glorious.
This is one of my favorite blogs because I love to all the compilations of images this lady posts. She is from South Africa and I don’t know much about her other than her music and fashion tastes.
Through her, I find new music or films to watch, things I wouldn’t normally find. Her blog is such a place of love and comfort that it is a great de-stresser.
I have so many things I’m excited for post-online school! I’m going to have the time to do art projects and crafts that I haven’t for a long time.
I’m going to finish my embroidery of the Beatles and try to learn the guitar and maybe even piano!!! The possibilities are endless and I’m very excited.
I discovered this band because the lead singer had this song about an argument with the lead singer of my favorite band, Jellyfish. I read about it on the vinyl villain blog which posts great things about great music. I highly recommend checking it out with the link below.
They are an incredibly great Scottish band and they deserve more accolades and a larger audience than they have.
They have made music throughout the 90s to their most recent release in 2016. They all play their own instruments and have an original sound, with a slight The Smiths vibe
Online class makes me realize how integral the classroom is for me to learn. Sitting and staring at a computer all day without moving is awful, and I feel sorry for every office worker in the world who has to do this everyday. I miss interactions between other students, I miss walking to class, I miss the clarity the library offered.
Instead Quarantine feels like this stock photo.
Working with poor wifi in a house of other people working online or doing online school as well is incredibly unproductive and has me doing buzzfeeds quizzes on my phone in the backyard for a moment of privacy. These quizzes are so completely worthless, like below which is a quiz, “Only 10% of People Can Get Most of These Tricky Disney Questions Correct”. I know I truly don’t care about it and yet I did it. Fun fact: Prince Philips’ horse is named Samson.
Grimes and Elon Musk had a child and named it X Æ A-12 Musk. IS THIS NOT THE MOST MIND BOGGLING THING EVER? My friends and I have said that the poor baby is basically going to raised as an alien by these parents.
City Lights(1931) was such a joy to watch! Directed and starred in by Charlie Chaplin, he plays a city tramp who falls in love with a beautiful blind flower girl, and who attempts to help her and her mother through a series of comical slapstick events. The romance of the film seems genuinely sincere and sweet and it is incredibly heartwarming. For a film that came out in 1931, its impressive how truly ahead of its time it was, and how it still holds up in 2020. It is impossible not to be charmed by the bashful kind tramp who endearingly means well, but gets himself stuck in funny situations. Chaplin, along with Arthur Johnston and Jose Padilla, scored the film, and it was actually Chaplin’s last silent film.
Again, for a film made in 1931, the scene is edited really well! There are close ups and far shots, and the editing isn’t rushed or shoddy, but paced perfectly with the pathos of the scene. It is amazing to consider that, since the film was silent and most of the storyline was conveyed by body language with sparing sentence cards, that these films of the time could be shown world wide and be understood despite language barriers. The fact that there was no sound made them so popular and so widely received. However, nowadays, what used to make this film so popular, is a barrier to audiences who want sound and dialogue. It is a true loss that this film, along with Chaplin’s other works or even Buster Keaton for that matter, are not shown to major audiences today. The films speak to simple yet power emotions. There is no audience blockbuster formula to them, but a genuineness that captures the heart.
The most fascinating things about Pangolin’s is that due to their reclusive nature, scientists are unsure of how long they live in the wild. For all we know, the elusive Pangolins could live for 20 years, 30 years, 100 years or more.
There are eight different types of pangolins in the world.
Surprisingly, they are closely related to cats, dogs, and bears.
They have poor vision, like myself, but instead of relying on coke-bottle glasses, they have an excellent sense of smell. They track down termites and ants and eat them with a tongue that is attached to their last pair of ribs. In their stomach are small stones and spines that mash up their food, and with each new thing I learn about the Pangolin I’m increasingly shocked.
They run, climb, and swim fastly and dig burrows to sleep in. They tunnel underground and come out at night to eat insects. As they are solitary animals and due to their behaviors, scientists have a hard time studying them.
Honestly, Pangolins sound much more interesting than humans. I don’t think many comparisons can be made between these species, except I wish I could curl up into a ball and hide on occassion.
