Quarantine Song

Since quarantine began, I have not been able to stop listening to the song New Mistake by Jellyfish, one of my favorite bands from the early 90s which never came to popularity. The lead singer Andy Sturmer described this song as about being “licking your wounds and not slashing your wrists” which in this current time is a reminder to me that I shouldn’t be beating myself up about my faults right now. Although the lyrics describe loving your new mistake as a new baby, as the band Jellyfish would want me to, I interpret it differently. Things are scary and anxiety and fear within my family and myself over all of this has caused me to not be my most productive, but I need to remind myself, with the help of this song, that it’s ok. Every time I “fall”, my family and friends will be there to catch me.
